About Peelframe
Peelframe is a web tool that removes burned-in subtitles from videos and uses AI to fill in the picture the subtitles covered. There is nothing to install, and your video never leaves your computer.
What Peelframe does
It finds and erases text that was added on top of a video while editing: bold Shorts and Reels captions, captions on a yellow box, stickers with text. The erased area is filled with real background from nearby frames and with AI restoration, and the result is saved as an MP4 with the same resolution and length as the original. Peelframe can also extract on-screen subtitles, with their timing, as an SRT file.
- Automatic removal: finds subtitles in the whole frame or part of it and restores only the frames that have them.
- Your own areas: draw a box around what to erase, and only the text and caption boxes inside it are removed.
- Checked results: compare the original and the result side by side before saving; after processing, the whole output file is checked and played to the end.
Why we built it
Peelframe started as a tool its operator built for his own video editing. Re-editing footage with burned-in subtitles came up often, yet many tools required uploading the video to a server, and checking that the output file actually played to the end was left to the user. So we built a tool that processes the video only on your own device and verifies the result, and made it public.
How it works
- Finding subtitles: a text detection model locates text in each frame and narrows down, frame by frame, when each subtitle appears and disappears.
- Shaping what to erase: a mask follows the letter strokes, their outlines and shadows, and the outline of any box or sticker behind the text.
- Filling the background: when the camera moves, background that was really visible in nearby frames is carried over; the rest is filled by an AI inpainting model (LaMa family).
- Saving and checking: FFmpeg running inside the browser saves the MP4, and the result file is checked from start to finish.
Computers with a GPU (WebGPU) process on the GPU; others use the CPU. All of the computation happens inside your browser.
Our principles
- Your video is never sent to a server. Video files, frames and subtitle text are not uploaded to or stored on Peelframe servers.
- Results are checked before you get them. Right after processing, the file is checked for corruption and missing audio.
- Rights come first. Only process videos you own or have permission to use. Using Peelframe to remove other people's watermarks, logos or credits is prohibited by our Terms of Service.
- Simple pricing. You can review full results for free; unlimited-length saves and multiple workspaces come with Pro.
Who runs Peelframe
Peelframe is operated by Hiddenframe (히든프레임), a sole proprietorship in the Republic of Korea. It launched in October 2026 and is available in Korean, English, Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese and Indonesian.
